Portmanteau

shirt cuff wallet

an “upcycled” wallet made from an old shirt.  This wallet aside, I had not previously heard of the term upcycle, which differs from recycle in that you take waste or items of little value and convert them into something of higher value.  Sure, it’s just a fun marketing word that probably sells books, but secretly I hope somewhere, at some point, there is a very serious debate between economists whether upcycling or recycling has occurred.  What is the actual value of that old shirt?  What’s the opportunity of cost of turning it into a wallet instead of something else?  How do you like my sweet new upcycled wallet?  (that shirt cost $100 dollars, you REcycled it fool!)
